Wilbert Walcker

Funeral Services for Wilbert J. Walcker, 84, of Hebron, will be 11:00 a. m. CST, Friday, December 6, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Hebron with Pastor David Ling officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.


The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. CST, on Thursday, December 5th at the First Baptist Church.


Wilbert passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 at Marion Manor in Glen Ullin.


Wilbert was born April 2, 1929 in Washburn, ND the son of Philip J. and Magdalena (Hoffman) Walcker. Willie grew up and attended school through the eighth grade. Willie joined the U. S. Army in 1948 at Bismarck and he was honorably discharged at Fort Bliss, TX in August of 1949. Upon returning to North Dakota Willie started his working career at Equity Elevator in Turtle Lake ND. Willie married Eldena (Wahl) on October 19, 1951 at Roseglen, ND and to this union, five children were born: Wanda, Barry, Clinton, Cindy and Laura. In 1966, Willie accepted the manager position at the Peavey Elevator in Hebron and on the coldest January day possible he moved his family to Hebron. Willie spent the next 19 years working as the manager of the PV and Conagra elevators in Hebron. Willie’s memorable accomplishments were being named Boss of the Year in 1975 by the Hebron Jaycees and being named Far West Manager of the Year in 1979 by the Peavey Company. As a reward for this, Willie and his wife Eldena were rewarded with a memorable trip to Hawaii. Willie retired from Conagra in 1985. In retirement Willie enjoyed walking, playing pinochle, being outdoors, helping out at church and the senior center, baking Rice Krispy bars and pies for friends, (they were the best in a tri-state area) visiting with his family and many friends. Willie was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Hebron, serving many years as a trustee and an usher. The beautiful evergreens around the Baptist Church in Hebron are one of many reminders of Willie’s love and dedication to his beloved church. He was also a member of the Brick City Senior Center and Turtle Lake Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief.


Willie is survived by his sons, Barry (Sonja) Walcker of Golden, CO and Clinton (Noreen) Walcker of Bismarck; three daughters, Wanda Schlenvogt of Grand Junction, CO, Cindy (Joel) Bosch of Sun Lakes, AZ and Laura (Dale) Sayler of Hebron, ND; two sisters, Violet Walcker of Underwood, ND, Louise (Bryan) Grondahl of Bismarck, ND; sister-in-law, Irene Walcker of Garrison, ND and Beverly Walcker of Underwood, ND; a brother-in-law, Layton Freborg of Underwood, ND , 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eldena; brothers: Theodore, Raymond and Milton Walcker; a sister, Delilah Freborg; a sister-in-law, Ruth Walcker; a daughter-in-law, Sue Walcker, and a granddaughter, Christy Walcker.


Willie will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
