Funeral Services for Wilfred R. Stieg will be 11:00 a. m. Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the St. Joan of Arc Parish Hall in Ekalaka. Tom Stieg will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Camp Crook, SD. Wilfred passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker following a short illness. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Wilfred Robert Stieg 68, was born on February 13, 1936 the son of Robert and Isabel Murray Stieg on the family ranch five miles north of Ekalaka, Montana. He grew up and attended school in Ekalaka graduating from the Carter Co. High School in 1954. Wilfred was married to Dorothy Carter in Ekalaka on June 25, 1960. After his marriage, Wilfred farmed for a time on the family farm, and then Wilfred & Dorothy began ranching with Dorothy?s father, Ethan Carter in Carter County Long Pines. He later attended automotive schools in Fargo, ND and Billings. The family moved to Sturgis, SD in 1971 where Wilfred worked as a mechanic for the McKee International. After moving to Broadus, Montana, Wilfred worked for the Powder River Road Crew for the next 10 years. Due to injuries from an accident Wilfred returned to school attending UND in Williston for three years where he studied range management and environmental clean- up. In 1995, they moved to Baker where they have made their home since. Wilfred, semi-retired and has worked at various jobs since. He especially enjoyed woodworking, making many pieces of furniture as well as inlaid lamps and candlesticks. He also enjoyed card playing and visiting with his friends and family. His greatest love was his time spent with the grandchildren. Wilfred was a member of the Episcopalian Church in Sturgis where he served as a deacon and a past member of the Broadus Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include, his loving wife of 44 years Dorothy, Baker; two daughters, Stefeni (Brad) Freese, Belgrade, MT and Sydni (Anthony) Tangaro, Bozeman, MT; a son, Aaron (Andrea) Stieg, Belgrade; four grandsons: Dominic & Nathan Tangaro and Dustin and Dillon Freese; four sisters: Dorothy Powell, Parker, CO, Donna (Charles) Guyer, Ekalaka, Jean Erickson, Ekalaka and Patsy (Charles) Mecham, Las Cruces, NM; and two brothers, Owen (Darlene) Stieg, Ekalaka and Wallace (Marie) Stieg of Forsyth. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Erwin and Eddy, and a sister, Roberta George.
