Willard passed away October 6, 2017 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson surrounded by his family.
Willard J. Jaeger was born May 22, 1924 to Peter J. and Barbara (Stroh) Jaeger. He grew up on the family farm and attended a country school. He began working on the family farm at a young age, and continued to do so after completing school. It was during this time that he met Emma Buresh, and the two were married on October 20, 1947 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Willard and Emma began farming north of Dickinson before settling on the family farm in 1949. Along with farming, Willard also worked part-time at Fisher Sand and Gravel to supplement the farm income during lean crop years. Willard and Emma were blessed with five children. Willard felt blessed to raise his children on the farm where he shared with them the value of hard work, responsibility, and achievement.
Willard and Emma moved into Dickinson in 1979. Willard worked for Dvorak Motors for several years. He then began driving cars for Dan Porter Motors, which he did for over 20 years. Throughout these years, Willard always made time for a trip out to the farm, where he enjoyed his visits with his cousins, John and Frank Jaeger. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends over a cup of coffee, and could often be found with the coffee group at Dan Porter Motors.
Family was very important to Willard. He found great pleasure in calling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren regularly to find out “What’s up?” He always looked forward to their visits. He loved being surrounded by them at family and holiday celebrations.
Willard was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club. He served on several farming-related boards of directors, on the Rural Telephone and Southwest Grain boards, and was a founding member of Queen of Peace Church.
