Funeral services for William J. Brandvik, 79, of Killdeer, will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, ND with Pastor Steve Schou officiating. Military Rites will be provided by Ezra Barrows Post #46. Burial will be held at a later date in the Oakdale Cemetery.


Visitation for Bill will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Killdeer.


William J. Brandvik was born on February 17, 1933, in Halliday, ND, the son of Arthur and Margaret (Olafson) Brandvik. He was raised in Killdeer and attended a rural school in the Mountain View School District for five years, then attended Killdeer Public School. He graduated from Killdeer High School in 1951. After graduation, William attended North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture in 1958. He then attended graduate school at NDSU and received a Master of Science degree in agricultural entomology in 1961. William served two years in the U. S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He then worked for the U. S. Department of Agriculture for five years. William continued his career with the North Dakota Department of Agriculture for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He served 21 years as the State Entomologist for the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. William enjoyed raising and riding quarter horses. He was a former member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the North Dakota Team Penning Association. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Killdeer.


William is survived by two sisters, a brother, and three sisters-in-law, Margaret Bandle, Killdeer, ND, and Wilma Deleissegues, Gonzalis, CA; Morris (Mavis) Brandvik, Killdeer, ND; Nancy Brandvik, Bismarck, ND, and Audry Brandvik, Rosebud, MT.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Margaret; two brothers, Arthur and Michael Brandvik; and two brothers-in-law, Gene Deleissegues and Walt Bandle.
