Bill passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at VA Black Hills Health Care System in Sturgis, SD. William “Bill” Haverluk was born August 17, 1932, on the farm in Gorham, North Dakota to Mike and Mary (Dribnouke) Haverluk. He graduated from the eighth grade at Hecker’s School east of Fairfield. After graduation, Bill continued helping his parents on the family farm. At the age of 18, Bill went to work for Billings County as a cat skinner building roads wherever a caterpillar was needed. Later a seismograph company came to the area and Bill worked for them until he was drafted into the Army in April 1953 during the Korean War. He spent over a year in Germany in the Signal Corp. with the 28th Infantry Division, being honorably discharged in March 1955. After returning home, Bill went to work on an oil rig and moved to Moorcraft, Wyoming in 1956. This is where he met the love of his life, Caryl Louise Brosa. They were united in marriage on October 24th, 1957 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church north of Belfield. To this union, three children, Terrance, Valerie Ann and Lisa Mary were born in Gillette, Wyoming. Bill worked in Moorcraft until 1967. In 1970, Bill and Caryl moved to Greeley, Colorado, retiring there in 1994. After retirement, they moved back to North Dakota and have lived north of Belfield since then. Bill spent over 40 years in the oil business in Wyoming, Colorado and Montana. His hard work made it a rewarding career. He went from a roughneck to a drilling superintendant. He was part owner of five drilling rigs which experienced the ups and downs of the oil industry. While in business, the rigs set two records in the 1980’s; drilling 60 wells with one rig for a total of 431,956 feet in one year (best ever done) and drilling a record 7200 feet in 39 hours. Bill is a life member of the VFW Post 6624 in Evans Colorado and a life member of the Eagles in LaSalle Colorado. He is also a member of the American Legion #0144 Post in Belfield and the K of C’s. Bill is a member of St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church serving as a trustee from 1996-1998 and a member of St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church where he helps with the care of the cemetery. Bill is survived by his children: Terrence (Julie) Haverluk of Colorado Springs, CO, Valerie (Will) Knorr of Westminster, CO, and Lisa (Dennis) Haverluk-Edmonds of Casper, WY; three grandchildren, Elena, Claire and Lauren; brother Joe (Connie) Haverluk of Richland, WA; sisters, Regina (Al) Wagner of San Diego, CA; Pearl Ewoniuk of Dickinson, Margie Grosulak and Josephine Shypkoski of Belfield, and Ella Basaraba of Idaho.
