Funeral Mass for William Steckler, 94, of Dickinson will be 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Kregg Hochhalter celebrating. Burial will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 13 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, with Rosary & Vigil beginning at 6:00 p.m.

William passed away July 6, 2021 at St. Gabriel’s Community in Bismarck surrounded by his loving family.

William Martin was born north of Richardton on July 1, 1927, the son of Mathew and Florentina (Kuntz) Steckler. Growing up he attended country school through the eighth grade. He stayed on the farm until he was drafted into the US Army on December 6, 1950. Following his honorable discharge in 1952, he served in the Reserves for five years and returned to the farm. William met the love of his life, his bride to be, Eleanor Jordan, at a dance in Richardton. The couple were married on September 23, 1953 in Richardton. Their marriage was blessed with son Terry and daughter Cindy. William was a farmer at heart, retiring from farming in 1993 and living on the farm until 2006. Dickinson became their final home. William owned three motor coaches, putting on over 70,000 miles. He enjoyed traveling, tinkering in the quonset and fabricating metal. He was an active member of the Richardton School Board, American Legion and St. Mary’s Parish Council. Due to health issues, William moved to St. Gabriel’s in June 2021.

William is survived by his wife, Eleanor; son, Terry (Diane) Steckler of Bismarck; daughter, Cindy (Duane) Tessier of Richardton; grandchildren, Dustin (Megan), Travis (Lorie), Ashley, Darren (Dani), Brett, Leigh (Tanya); great-grandchildren, Henry, Jordan, Chase, William Tessier, Kinley, Brody, Rylee, Cash, Mya, Carter, Wyatt, Rosie; brothers, Martin (Irene) Steckler of Seattle, WA, Ronald (Donna) Steckler of Cincinnati, OH; sisters, Jeanette (Val) Friedt, Patty Vaugen both of Dickinson, Joyce (Neal) Johnson of Clemons, NC, Jeannie (Charlie) Pugh of Cincinnati, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mathew and Florentina Steckler; brothers, Julius (Evangeline), Leonard (Betty); sisters, infant Marie, Adeline (Ben) Schubert, Helen (Paul) Hauck, Frieda (Joe) Klein.
