Funeral Mass for William Tormaschy, 93, of Gladstone, will be 9:30 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will take place in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military Honors will be presented by Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard.
Visitation for William will be 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 4:00p.m.
William passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Dickinson.
William Joseph was born north of Gladstone, in the family farm house, on May 19, 1926, the son of Kasper and Katherine (Grossman) Tormaschy. As a young boy, he attended country school north of Gladstone. At the age of 19, he became an army soldier serving his country during WWII in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He served in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Following his service, William returned home to Gladstone where he was a farmer most of his life. On May 28, 1951, William married Dorothy Miller at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Their marriage was blessed with three sons and a daughter. William enjoyed making old fashioned buggies and he was a volunteer at the Dickinson Museum and Prairie Outpost Guide.
William is survived by his wife, Dorothy of 68 years; daughter, Delores (Glenn) Amundson of Williston; sons, Willard (Luane) of Dickinson, Walter (Tracy) of Gladstone, Warren (Vicki) of Dickinson; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard of Dickinson, Ralph of Manning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kasper and Katherine Tormaschy; sisters, Frances (Christ) Freer, Caroline (Gene) Martin; brother, Victor (Lucille); sisters-in-law, Marie and Alina Tormaschy; half-brother, George (Lorene) Grossman.
