Private family services for Braelie Mae Nies, infant daughter of Matt and Ami (Markuson) Nies, will be held at a later date.

Braelie Mae passed away, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO.

Braelie Mae Nies made her debut into this world on May 1, 2018, our May Day Miracle. She was taken from us only one week later on May 8, 2018. Our sweet little angel was a fighter from the beginning, being born unexpectedly at her home in Ekalaka. Braelie was well taken care of by the incredible staff at Dahl Memorial and immediately loved by so many. She got to take her first plane ride to Billings to spend some time at the St Vincent NICU. Braelie weighed 1 pound 4.75 ounces and was 11.4 inches long. Although she was small, we could not have been more proud of her incredible strength. We feel very blessed to have been able to touch her and hold her fingers right away, and adored every finger squeeze and stretch she gave us. We loved taking in every small detail of our sweet girl and quickly noticed she was her dad through and through.   On May 3rd, she loved every second of being held by her momma and getting her first kisses from her daddy! She gave us a lifetime of love and memories, including a one week birthday party with her family. Braelie gave us her last day here to love her, read to her, sing to her, kiss her, and hold her for hours, and although it could never be enough, we are so thankful for the time we had with her on her final day to let us be her Mom and Dad. She was an inspiration and we could not have been more proud to be her parents’. Our hearts were shattered when we were told God was calling her home, and we were going to have to let her go, but we are grateful for her strength and determination during the time we had with her. She was so incredibly loved by those around her and those at home praying for her, the love this little girl spread was pretty unbelievable.

She is survived by her loving parents, Matt and Ami Nies; her maternal grandmother, Robin Markuson; her paternal grandparents, Frank and Karen Nies; her maternal great-grandparents, Milton and Janice Markuson, Richard Schmidt, and Kathy Nylund; her paternal great-grandmother, Charlotte King; her aunts and uncles, Mark (Brittany) Nies, Marlee Nies, Tara (Clay) Smith, Jennifer (Logan) Bird; and cousins, Quinn Nies, Ty Smith, and Allie Bird.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Tyler Markuson; paternal great-grandparents, Jim and Fran Nies, and Argaylon King.
